Writing Support

Writing Support for English Classes

Writing Support Center services are available for all students enrolled in any English class. Writing Support Center Services include online and in-person writing consultations (tutoring) with faculty and student tutors, paper drop-off, workshops, and Achieve grammar and writing software.

In order to use the Writing Support Center, you must be enrolled in one of the following lab classes:

English courses and their corresponding lab classes:

English 101

(Lab Class: Tutor 001 or English 108)

English 101 students have access to all Writing Support Center services, including tutoring, workshops, and grammar and writing software. English 101 students can visit the Writing Support Center to meet with their own embedded tutors or with any available tutor for individual writing consultations. English 101 students should enroll in the free noncredit Tutor 001 course to access services at The Writing Support Center.

English 28

(Lab Class: English 67)

English 28 students have access to all Writing Support Center services, including tutoring, workshops, and grammar and writing software. English 28 students can visit the Writing Support Center to meet with an English 67 faculty instructor or with any available tutor for individual writing consultations.

English 102, English 103 and Upper-Level English Classes

(Lab Class: Tutor 001 or English 108)

English 102, English 103 and upper-level English students have access to all Writing Support Center services, including tutoring, workshops, and grammar, and writing software. Students in English 102 or 103 and all upper-level English classes may meet with faculty or student tutors in the Writing Support Center for individual writing consultations. Students must be enrolled in Tutor 001 or English 108 in order to access services at The Writing Support Center.

About English Lab Classes

Tutor 001 (0 units)

Tutor 001 is a free, noncredit lab course that provides students access to all services at The Writing Support Center, including tutoring, workshops, and grammar and writing software. If students are not enrolled in English 108 or English 67, they must enroll in Tutor 001 in order to use the services at The Writing Support Center.

English 108 (0.5 unit)

English 108 provides guided support by a faculty instructor for students enrolled in English 101, 102, 103 or any upper-level English class. English 108 students spend 15 hours in The Writing Support Center, where they have access to individual tutoring, workshops, and grammar and writing software. English 108 provides students with the extra support they need to develop confidence and proficiency with academic writing.

English 67 (0.5 unit)

English 67 provides guided support by a faculty instructor for students enrolled in English 28. English 67 students spend 15 hours in The Writing Support Center, where they have access to individual tutoring, workshops, and grammar and writing software. English 67 provides students with the extra support they need to develop confidence and proficiency with academic writing.
