What is CalWORKs?

California Work Opportunities and Responsibility for Kids (CalWORKs) is an innovative program that provides FREE workforce training, work opportunities, education, counseling, case management and childcare services for students receiving public assistance. At CalWORKs, we help you make your Dreams come true, we support you to Achieve your educational and career goals, and we will go beyond the call of duty to ensure you Succeed!

Participating Students Also Receive Assistance in Completing:

  • Greater Avenues for Independence (GAIN) required paperwork; as suitable.
  • Ancillary Request forms to receive all books, supplies and/or a laptop free of cost.
  • Childcare paperwork to receive excellent care for their child/children while in classes.

The CalWORKs staff is always prepared to assist students in completing their educational goals, resolving issues as they arise, and celebrating academic success. We look forward to serving you!

Mission Statement

The Los Angeles City College CalWORKs program will provide access to educational programs for student-parents receiving financial aid. We will help empower students to embrace their dreams, achieve their academic and career goals, and succeed in long-term economic self-sufficiency.
