The Campus Child Development Center provides child care for student parents to assist them in completing their educational goals. The Center offers a preschool program for children 2 to 5 years of age.
BACKGROUND
The Campus Child Development Center was established in 1975 as a service to the college's students. The primary goal of the program is to increase accessibility to college for non-traditional students. The center offers a quality learning experience for young children and their families, and serves as a field-training site for the college's instructional program.
PHILOSOPHY
The center’s program is based upon the faculty’s shared philosophical approach to early childhood education. Children flourish in an environment that acknowledges the multiplicity of human needs. We offer a program that responds to all of the developmental needs of children: social, cultural, emotional, cognitive, and physical. Our primary goal is to encourage a positive self-image and sense of independence in each child. The child becomes aware of his/her own worth both as an individual and as a member of a peer group, while learning to respect the rights of others.

Services/Function Provided
The Campus Child Development Center provides a Californian State Preschool Program and a General Child Care Program. Our hours are:
- Half Day care: 8:30AM - 12:30PM
- All Day care: 8AM - 3:30PM
Priority/Eligibility
New families will be enrolled from the eligibility list as space becomes available, following the requirements and guidelines for the California State Department of Education, Child Development Division and the Los Angeles Community College District. Enrollment priority is as follows:
- Child Protective Services and At-Risk
- Homeless
- Children of Full-time student/parents that are low income
- Children of low income or CalWORKs recipients
- Children of Faculty/Staff
- Children of the general Community
For those who do not qualify for subsidized care, there is a fee for the Center’s services.
Admission Procedures
- Applications are available in the Campus Child Development Center office or at the bottom of this page.
- Applications for all programs, for the current and upcoming semesters, summer session(s), and winter intersession are accepted continuously throughout the year.
- An application must be filed at the Campus Child Development Center to be considered for service and/or placed on the eligibility list.
- Applications are good for one semester only. All other applications on the eligibility list at the end of the semester become void, unless renewed.
Family Fees
Fees for all Campus Child Development Center programs are calculated using a sliding scale based on family size and the gross monthly income. Subsidized service is available to eligible families.
Visits
We welcome and encourage you to visit our center. It is recommended that you make an appointment a day or two in advance so that someone will be available to give you a tour and answer your questions. To make an appointment call (323) 953-4000 ext. 2220.
Student Lab and Employment
Child Development majors and other students participate in the program under the direct supervision of a Child Development Center Master Teacher. Employment opportunities for teacher’s assistants are available for those who qualify.

Additional Information:
- The Campus Child Development Center is a licensed childcare facility that provides developmentally appropriate programs for the children of students, staff, faculty, and the community.
- The Campus Child Development Center cannot accommodate off-track school-age children.
- The LACC Campus Child Development Center / Lab School has an “open door” policy. Parents/Guardians/Family members may visit their children in our facility any time they wish. We do ask those who plan to visit their children frequently to follow the classroom routine, to avoid disturbing classroom schedules and activities. If you wish to meet with the Director or a staff member, please make an appointment so that arrangements can be made.
- The Center operates on the Los Angeles City College academic calendar. The Campus Child Development Center is operated in a manner which is free from discrimination on the basis of race, color, national origin, ancestry, religion, creed, sex, pregnancy, marital status, medical condition, sexual orientation, or disability.
