Welcome to the

Psychology Department

Our Department

Psychology is a broad-ranging scientific field dedicated to studying the integrative aspects of mind, brain, and behavior. Courses in our department explore topics related to neuroscience, development, sensation, perception, learning, memory, intelligence, motivation, emotion, stress, human flourishing, group dynamics, personality, addiction studies, and mental health.

According to the Bureau of Labor Statistics, overall employment for psychology jobs is expected to grow faster than average over the next decade

The Department provides day, evening, weekend, and online classes to meet the diverse needs of our student population. Students can take 8-week or 16-week courses during the Fall and Spring. There are also 5-week courses offered in the Summer and Winter.

Programs in our department facilitate students to achieve completion of transfer degrees, certificates, and Associate's Degrees in Psychology and Social Work. In addition, our Human Services program specifically trains students for career opportunities in a wide range of human health services, including mental health and addiction counseling. Programs in our department can be completed in less than two years and we offer an Associate in Arts for Transfer degrees that ensure students entrance into a California State University for completion of a Bachelor's Degree in Psychology or Social Work. More information about our degrees and certificate programs are available through Degrees & Certificates.

Mission Statement

The mission of the LACC Psychology department is to facilitate student knowledge in the study of human behavior, prepare students for employment or further study in the field of psychology, and enhance interpersonal and intrapsychic knowledge.
