Welcome to the Writing Center! We help all writers on campus, in every subject, at any stage of the writing process.
Here's what you can do at the Writing Center:
- Get individual writing help (online or in-person) for any assignment for any class
- Drop off your paper for feedback from a tutor
- Attend faculty-led workshops
- Brush up on grammar and writing skills with Achieve grammar & writing software.
Writing Center Services
Our peer writing coaches work with student writers at every stage of the writing process. Whether you’re just getting started, formatting citations, drafting, or revising, we can help. In-person appointments are held in AD 100, and online appointments are held on Zoom. Visit our Tutoring page for more information about tutoring.
For paper drop-off appointments, you do not need to be present at your appointment time. Your tutor will read a draft of your essay and provide feedback. Submit your essay draft and assignment instructions through your session chatroom in Penji. Ignore the pop-up and emails you will receive with a link to join a session (you will not need to join a session). Your draft must be 250 words minimum in order for a tutor to provide feedback.
The Writers' Room provides you with time and space to write, facilitated and inspired by a Writing Support Center peer tutor. You can drop in at your convenience and stay as long as you like. Tutors are available to answer questions and provide brief assistance with grammar and writing issues. Get more info on our Writers' Room page.
Workshops are designed to help students with grammar, writing, and speaking skills, and they are taught by faculty from the department of English and ESL. Check out our Workshops page for more information and a schedule. Workshops are offered in fall and spring semesters.
Achieve is an online program that can help you with your grammar and writing skills at your own pace. Check out the Achieve page to get started. Achieve is available in fall and spring only.
Writing support is available for students in all English classes. Embedded Tutors help students succeed in English 101 by engaging in course activities and offering individual writing consultations in the Writing Support Center. The ESL Lab provides assistance for all students enrolled in ESL classes. The ESL Lab, located in Jefferson Hall 318, offers both in-person and online services.
How to Access the Writing Center
To visit the Writing Support Center, you will need to register and make an appointment or drop in for tutoring on Penji.
How to get writing help on Penji:
- Visit web.penjiapp.com or click on “LACC Penji Tutoring” in Canvas and log in using your student email or SSO.
- Click “Get Started” and then select “Learn”
- Select "Los Angeles City College" and then select "LACC | Writing Support Center"

Prep Week (Fall & Spring Terms)
The Writing Center is closed during week 1 in the fall and spring terms for "Prep Week." We look forward to helping you with your writing beginning in week 2 in the fall and spring terms, and during week 1 in the winter and summer terms.

When you use Writing Center services, you will be automatically enrolled in the FREE noncredit (nongraded) Tutor 001, which tracks student usage for administrative purposes only.
