Office of Special Services

New students with disabilities requesting services are required to complete an OSS new student application and provide a professional certification of disability signed by an appropriate professional. In addition, students must complete the OSS new student orientation.

Continuing students, if requesting services, must update their OSS application each semester in attendance. Download the OSS Continuing Student Form and email the completed document to If you have not been an active student for more than a year, you will need to repeat the OSS new student orientation. Please remember it is required to make an appointment with your Counselor or Specialist in OSS each semester at LACC to sign and review your OSS student education contract.

If you need ACCOMMODATIONS for Fall 2020, please write to Ryan Kushner at to request the new student application.

As we transition to online classes, OSS is here to help. Visit our Online Resources tab to the left for news about online how–to workshops for CANVAS, Cranium CafĂ©, online tutoring and more ways to thrive online.

Welcome to the Office of Special Services!  It is our sincere desire to help you achieve your academic and career education goals.  Active participation in OSS will help you become an independent advocate for yourself and for other students with disabilities.

Academic advisement, counseling, assistive technology, adaptive equipment, exam accommodations, sign language interpreters, Braille transcription, learning disabilities assessment as well as other auxiliary aids and services are provided for eligible students. Please apply at OSS and meet with a qualified OSS professional to schedule and arrange these services. It is important to review your educational strengths, limitations, academic adjustment needs, and progress each semester that you are enrolled and to request authorized academic adjustments in a timely manner from your classroom instructors at LACC.

We strongly encourage you to take this opportunity to review the information in the OSS web site and to complete your OSS Application or Update. New students will need to complete the LACC and OSS Orientations, Assessment, and make an appointment with an OSS Counselor to complete a Student Educational Plan and Academic Accommodations Plan.

If you have questions or need further assistance, please contact any of the personnel listed under OSS Staff.  If you have or think you have a disability, please schedule an appointment with one of our OSS Counselors or Learning Disabilities Specialists.

Good luck with your educational career and/or transfer objectives at LACC!

From the OSS Staff

OSS Mission Statement:

The Office of Special Services’ (OSS) mission is to facilitate equal access for enrolled students with disabilities, allowing full participation in educational programs, services, and campus activities through appropriate and reasonable academic adjustments.

Program Description:

OSS facilitates equal access for LACC students with disabilities to participate in educational programs, services, and campus activities through appropriate and reasonable academic adjustments.  Academic adjustments and auxiliary aids and services are determined on a case-by-case basis by an OSS professional in conjunction with student dialogue, professional documentation, identified educational limitations, and the degree or extent of functional limitation associated with the student’s disability.

Program Learning Outcomes:

  1. OSS students will increase effective utilization of assistive technology in their courses.
  2. OSS students will demonstrate the ability to self-advocate, with the campus at large, for their individually identified academic adjustments and accommodations.
  3. Students will work with OSS Counselors and Specialists to develop, maintain, and follow a Student Educational Plan and Academic Accommodation Plan to complete their educational and career goals.
