Newly Admitted Students (Spring 2019)

Congratulations on your admission to Los Angeles City College as a full-time F-1 visa international students for Fall 2019 semester! We are very excited to have you start your U.S. higher education journey at our campus as LACC family! Before registering for your classes, there are mandatory steps for you to complete to ensure that you are on the right path. Please read the requirement checklist below and follow the steps!

Requirement Checklist:

1. LACC’s Online OrientationAll new students must complete the LACC Online Orientation to receive early registration. We recommend that you complete the online orientation before your arrival in the U.S.

  • Please login to your Student Portal at
  • Click on the “Orientation” tab on your right
  • Follow the instructions, watch all the videos, and take the quizzes to receive full credit

2. Check-In & Academic SeminarYou are required to attend BOTH the mandatory Check-In and Academic Seminar sessions. Please click on the link below to RSVP (select the dates and times of your attendance) BEFORE your arrival in the U.S.! You will select ONE of the following groups: Group 1 or Group 2, and attend both sessions.

  • Check-In: You are required to attend a mandatory Check-In session to learn about the F1 visa regulations and requirements to maintain your visa status. We will also inform about medical insurance policies and other important information.
  • Academic Seminar: You are required to attend a mandatory Academic Seminar session to learn about your academic requirements. You will also create a one-semester education plan with counselor to help you register for classes for Fall 2018 semester.

​***Please coordinate your arrival date so that you are able to attend the mandatory Check-In and Academic Seminar sessions. Failure to attend any one of these sessions WILL result in cancellation of your admission to LACC.

3. ESL Assessment ExamIf English is your second language, our college's English/ESL and Counseling departments highly recommend that you take the ESL assessment exam at LACC to determine your starting level before your registration for classes. When you attend the Check-In session, you will be informed on how to schedule an appointment to take the ESL exam.

4. Enroll in Counseling 40A Class (1 unit) during Your First Semester at LACC

You are required to enroll in the Counseling 40A/College Success Seminar class (1 unit) designed for F-1 visa international students during your first semester at LACC if this is your first time attending a U.S. college/university. Students who have previously attended a U.S. college or university and completed at least one semester at the institution are exempt from this requirement. If you have previously attended a language school (e.g. Kaplan) but not a U.S. college or university, you are NOT exempt from this requirement. 

Fall 2019 Counseling 40A/College Succes Seminar Class Information:

Please enroll in one of the following Counseling 40A sections in your first semester at LACC, unless you are waived from the requirement by the counselor.

  1. Counseling 40A - Section # 22355 (1st 8 weeks of Fall 2019 semester):
    • Meeting Dates: 08/26/2019 - 10/20/2019
    • Days and Times: Fr 9:00AM - 11:05AM
