Welcome to my website!

The Current Courses tab on the left lists the courses I teach, primarily ESL writing and reading, as well as Introduction to Linguistics (LING 1), Sociolinguistics (LING 2), and Psycholinguistics (LING 3).

Teaching and Faculty Service describes my teaching experience and academic service for the Los Angeles Community College District, including the districtwide ESL curriculum reorganization and new course development. My current curriculum project is launching ESL 110, a transfer-level English course (a.k.a. Freshman Comp) in ESL, at LACC in fall 2022.

The site’s Research Activities section lists my publications and presentations. The most recent ones include a book chapter in a Routledge volume on critical theory in applied linguistics, an article in the UCLA faculty training publication about how to engage bilingual students in creative writing, an NSF-AGEP funded guest lecture at UC Santa Barbara on linguistics pedagogy, as well as a critical study of linguistic ethnography, linking my LACC linguistics students with the students learning English at a university in Brazil, presented at the World Congress of Applied Linguistics (AILA 2021). I am currently conducting a study of decolonizing and social justice practices in language composition classrooms in California for an upcoming Routledge volume on critical pedagogy in applied linguistics.
