Welcome to the LACC Communication Studies Department

The LACC Department of Communication Studies is committed to student learning, academic success, and the development of life-long skills acquired from our diverse discipline. Our faculty is dedicated to helping students develop and improve their communication skills in a variety of course offerings.

Students in any field of study will benefit from Communication Studies courses.

Our department is proud to offer motivated students the opportunity:

  • To meet several General Education requirements for transfer.
  • To earn an Associate Degree for Transfer in Communication Studies.
  • To compete on a nationally recognized Forensics Speech and Debate Team.

A survey of employers by the National Association of Colleges and Employers ranked communication skills as the #1 attribute they seek in potential employees. Moreover, the Chicago Tribune reported all college graduates should successfully complete communication courses in order "to obtain and enhance their communication skills," making them a commodity to potential employers.

Mission Statement

The LACC Communication Studies Department seeks to integrate education and research to develop individual skills for public speaking through a transfer program leading to a degree in addition to providing training in informal conversations, improving interpersonal relationships, interacting with individuals from other cultures, and solving problems in groups in order to reach sound decisions.
