News and Events for the week of November 22

Good Monday Morning,

Thanksgiving week is upon us. For many, this time of year may mean travel to visit with family and friends, enjoying traditional holiday foods and reflecting on the people and things for which we are grateful. I encourage each of you, as we move forward toward the end of the semester and the year, to place a high priority on our own self-care, our friends and our peers. Take breaks, connect with friends, continue healthy habits and spend time with loved ones. This time of year is a time for gratitude. I wish each of you a joyous and peaceful Thanksgiving.

Entering Campus

We were supposed to not allow student to enter campus who were not “cleared” through the Cleared4 system beginning today. However, as I indicated in the message I sent out last Wednesday, that the District has asked us not to enforce this and allow students to enter campus. We continue our check in process through the rest of this semester. As students register for Winter and Spring, if they are not cleared through the Cleared4 system, they will not be able to register for on-site classes in the winter and spring terms.

Employee TB Tests

Many of you received an email from the District that you need to be cleared regarding TB. The District has sent out forms and instructions to those that need to take a TB Risk Assessment. The assessment can be done completely online. The email that the District sent out included a form to fill out, fill out the form and send it to Employees who cannot complete the form can come to campus on Monday, November 29 and obtain a hard copy form from the Student Union Coffee Shop and fill it out. Mobile units will be available next Monday from 7am to 2pm.

VAMA Lecture by Jynx Prado and Surge Witron

On Monday, November 22 at 6pm, the Visual & Media Arts Department will host a VAMA Lecture by Jynx Prado and Surge Witron. Jynx Prado uses an interdisciplinary practice to question and critique what is natural and artificial within cultures and the world at large. Through humor, irony, language, and symbolism Prado intertwines their experiences and histories as a queer, Mexican-Salvadoran mixed American in their work in a rasquachismo form. Surge Witrön’s explorative process produces works that combine coexistent traditions in abstract painting, gesture and mark making, through a process of overlaying, erasing, and abrasing. Components of what he coins as personal D.N.A. are embedded through the inclusion of personal artifacts representing matriarchal family members, readymade materials, and repurposed play objects.
