News and Events for the week of November 23

Good Monday Morning:

This Thanksgiving holiday week begins the wind down toward the end of this semester. For our staff and administrators, it is an opportunity to enjoy a nice long weekend. For our faculty, it is an opportunity to contemplate this very different semester and how you will finish it. Our campus will be closed this Thursday and Friday. I wish for each of you a peaceful and plentiful Thanksgiving. As challenging as this year has been, I am so thankful to everyone for the commitment that you make every day to our LACC students; thank you for your dedication to educational and organizational excellence.

Internship Opportunity

Please let your students know - Hulu and Snapchat, in partnership with Year Up, are looking for individuals to participate in a 6-month full-time, paid internship. If chosen for the program, students will attend a 2-week interactive bootcamp to build professional skills and a career portfolio in preparation for a hiring event. After a series of interviews, students will be selected either to enter the internship or receive employment assistance. The application can be found at

Music Faculty Concert

This Wednesday, November 25 at 6pm, prepare your evening beverage and join us for a concert in honor of Kabwe Chanda. Our talented music faculty will be performing and Kabwe’s wife, Pamela, and son, Noah, will be joining us. Here is the YouTube link:

Sheriff’s Department

Many of you have asked questions regarding our public safety contract with the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department. After five months of negotiations, the District was unable to reach mutually agreeable terms for a short- or long-term contract in light of the current COVID-19 environment. The District is preparing a bridge contract with a professional security service to continue campus safety and security. The new group coming in will start the transition with the LA Sheriff’s Department in mid-December. Over the next several months, the District will engage in an assessment of campus safety and use that assessment as the basis for a Request for Proposals (RFP) for campus safety services. The District has indicated to the LA Sheriff’s Department that we look forward to a proposal from the LASD for the long-term contract.

May you enjoy your family this Thanksgiving and get the extra days’ rest you all so deserve.

Be well. Stay safe.
