News and Events for the week of June 14

Good Monday Morning, 

Thank you to everyone that assisted in our Virtual Graduation last week. I am very proud of all of our graduates, faculty, and staff. The Cinema-TV group, under the leadership of Jen Vaughn, put together an amazing virtual graduation. I am sure there was nothing like it among all of the virtual graduations this year.

Summer Semester Begins

Today we begin our first summer term – our last fully online terms. Our enrollment remains strong. Headcount and enrollment are both over 100%. On Friday, open enrollment for Fall 2021 begins. Please let your students know to enroll early for their classes.

Drive Through Free Food Distribution Event

Last Friday, we partnered with Supervisor Sheila Kuehl’s office and hosted a drive through free food distribution event on our campus. Thank you to everyone who assisted with this event. 

On Campus Health Center Reopens

Our Health Center on campus reopens today with Wesley Health providing services to our students. Wesley is also an LA County vaccination site at LACC throughout the month of June. Students, faculty, staff, and their families can get vaccinated through Wesley. Please let your students know. The vaccination rate in our East Hollywood service area is only at 55%; however, the surrounding areas have improved to above 60%. This Saturday we will have a large event with Wesley and Kedren Health. Parking for vaccinations is in Lot 4. Vaccinations are free and no appointments are necessary. All three vaccines are available.   

California’s Statewide Economic Reopening

Tomorrow, June 15, Governor Newsom has called for California’s statewide economic reopening. We will hear more later this week about masks and social distancing in the workplace from Cal/OSHA. 

Juneteenth Black Lives Matter Town Hall

This Friday, June 18 we will be holding a special Juneteenth Black Lives Matter Town Hall beginning at 1:30pm. Our special speaker is Dr. Antonio Banks, Regional Coordinator for the Umoja Community Education Foundation. He will provide insight into the history of Juneteenth, why it’s celebrated and assess how significant this past emancipation is calling us into action today, join on Zoom at
