News and Events for the week of April 19

Good Monday Morning:

We are all settled back in for the last part of our semester to close out the 2020-21 year. Our headcount is at a remarkable 98% of last spring. Great work from all of you out there! We are busy now preparing the schedule for Fall 2021 with classes on campus at 50% capacity. It is a challenge, but Dr. Lancaster and his team are working with your department chairs to make it happen.

Faculty & Staff Awards

LACC is pleased to announce that faculty-staff awards are now open, and we are accepting nominations for the Fall 2021 recipients. The deadline is June 30, 2021. The winners will be announced at the Fall 2021 Convocation.

Student Town Halls and Weekly Communication

We resumed weekly information Town Halls last week. I meant to get communications out to you on Wednesday and Friday of last week and I did not make it. I am trying again for this week!

Staff is every Tuesday at 3pm and Students is every Thursday at 3pm:

LACC Foundation 2021 Virtual Gala

The LACC Foundation 2021 Virtual Gala is this Thursday, April 22nd at 7pm. It will be hosted by comedian Harry Basil. The event will feature an exciting performance from our very own Grammy Award Winner Lebo M., famous sculptor Marlene Louchheim and Zak Designs CEO Irv Zakheim will be honored with the LACC Outstanding Alumni Award; and the Rodney Dangerfield Centennial Respect Award will be presented to comedian Jimmy Fallon. Individual tickets for faculty and staff are available for purchase at half of the regular ticket price. Please purchase your tickets today at:

Budget Committee Meeting

We have a Budget Committee meeting today at 2:20. All are welcome to attend: VP Andriassian has scheduled a Town Hall with the Sheriff for a conversation and dialogue on Wednesday, April 21 at 11:30am. Here is the link:

Virtual Graduation Ceremony Update

Next week we will be filming for the virtual graduation ceremony. We will be having each person who wants to participate come Monday through Friday of next week to walk across the “stage” to receive their diploma form the president or vice president. It will take all five days to film each student and maintain the safety precautions needed. We have a lot of graduates who are participating this year. Our very own Cinema/TV program is producing this event. Be sure to have Tuesday, June 8th at 5pm for the virtual graduation. Plan a department virtual party – it will be fun!

Earth Day at LACC

Thursday, April 22, is Earth Day. We are very excited to host a ribbon-cutting ceremony for our new “The City’s Garden” at 11:30am. The new garden expands opportunities for experiential learning, provides increased access to affordable nutritious food for student and the community and fights climate change. Children’s Hospital Los Angeles donated seed money to start and maintain the garden.

Free Food Drive-Thru Giveaway

On Thursday, April 22,  from 9am to noon we will be hosting a free food drive-thru giveaway. The giveaway will be held at 4301 Melrose Avenue and is open to everyone. Enter via Melrose heading west and make a right onto New Hampshire Avenue, enter at New Hampshire Avenue. Cars can begin to line up no earlier than 8:30am.

Student Workshops

Our Life Skills Center is offering student workshops throughout the Spring 2021 semester. Workshops are held online every Tuesday from 12:30pm – 1:30pm. Herstory 2021 Webinar

On Wednesday, April 21, The City of Pasadena Commission on the Status of Women is presenting “Herstory 2021: Celebrating and Elevating Women to Public Office.” The event will take place virtually via Zoom and broadcast live on KPAS at 5:30pm.  Register at
