Theme: Breathing Anew

Deadline: May 31, 2022
Submit your work to the LACC English/ESL Department at thecitadellacc@gmail.com

After two years in Covid19 limbo, we are emerging from our virtual sanctuaries to re-engage with our neighbors, friends, our kin on near and distant shores, once again enjoying a touch, a hug, a smile as we breathe anew. We have learned that asphyxia threatens not only from the crowned virus, but from dehumanizing racism and injustice. The Citadel 2021-22 seeks stories and poems to celebrate our renewed ability to exhale and/or fight for a more just future.

General Guidelines for all Submissions:

Submit online only by emailing your submissions to thecitadellacc@gmail.com

Include a cover letter in your email that specifies title(s) of all submitted work(s), the author’s name, address, telephone number, email, and Student ID # if applicable. This information may be stated in the email itself.

Submissions are free for LACC students; $10 reading fee to the LACC Foundation for all others.

To pay the reading fee, visit www.laccfoundation.org and go to Donate. Look for “The Citadel” in the “Designation” drop-down menu and make your $10 donation. A PDF showing proof of payment/donation to the LACC Foundation is required for all submissions.

LACC students for whom the reading fee is waived must submit a pdf or image of their class schedule as proof of enrollment at any time during the 2021-22 academic year. Students are also required to provide a scan of their Student ID card. Names on the schedule and Student ID must match.

Anyone who does not follow the above submission guidelines is subject to disqualification.
