Veterans-Helping-Veterans

Introduction

The LACC Veterans Success Institute (VSI) is an access to success model which aims to remove obstacles as veterans and their families prepare to access post deployment training, education, and careers.  Founded by the LACC Council for Veterans Program, the Institute aims to provide the necessary support for veterans to succeed in college.

Mission Statement

The Veterans Success Institute (VSI) is committed to facilitating the successful transition from soldier to student. The VSI promotes an attitude of collaboration within the campus and surrounding community to increase awareness and sensitivity to issues concerning veterans. Our goal is to create an encouraging environment by acknowledging, honoring, and addressing veterans’ unique needs while attaining their educational goals.

Goals
  • To provide an avenue to visibly demonstrate support for veterans

  • To establish a network of easily identifiable people who can provide support and  information

  • To educate members of the campus community about the needs and concerns of veterans returning to school

  • To foster an atmosphere on campus which supports the academic, personal and social success of LACC veterans

  • To advance LACC’s progress toward a campus climate of accessibility

Outcomes
  • Increase the college admission rate of student veterans

  • Increase the persistence/retention rate of student veterans

  • Increase the graduation and transfer rate of student veterans
