The Federal TRIO Programs are educational opportunity outreach programs designed to motivate and support students from under-represented backgrounds. TRIO includes six outreach and support programs targeted to serve and assist low-income, first-generation students, and students with disabilities to progress through the academic pipeline.
Upward Bound provides fundamental support to participants in their preparation for college, as well as opportunities for participants to succeed in pre-college performance and ultimately in higher education pursuits. Upward Bound serves high school students from low-income families in which neither parent holds a bachelors degree (first-generation-potential college student). The goal of the Los Angeles City College Upward Bound Program is for participants to earn a baccalaureate degree.
