Program Mission: The mission of the College Readiness Academy is to infuse life-long academic skills to underprepared students, leading them towards successful graduation.

Program Description: The College Readiness Academy project focuses on Basic Skills Education and serves as a bridge program between non-credit and credit programs at Los Angeles City College. The CRA effectively prepares basic skills students who are under prepared in math and English by providing intense tutoring and formal mentorship; orienting them to credit programs and accessible student services; transitioning Non-Credit Basic Skills students into the First Year Experience Program (FYE); and providing curriculum specifically designed to prepare students for transferable and degree applicable courses and to enhance essential academic skills necessary to succeed in college level courses. This project monitors and ensures that all internal college resources are utilized to its maximum capacity.

The CRA service plan is designed to address the full range of barriers, including lack of knowledge and connection to postsecondary knowledge, lack of basic skills, and personal, family, and social support barriers faced by most basic skills students. It will incorporate an innovative program that includes counseling and mentoring methods, effective assessment, and bridge to college methods to ensure success.
