ANGELES, CA -- Dr. Tyree Wieder, who served as president of Los Angeles
Valley College for 14 years until retiring last summer, has been named
Interim Chancellor of the Los Angeles Community College District. The
selection was announced by the LACCD Board of Trustees as its regular
meeting today.
Dr. Wieder, 62, is a California native who was raised in South Los
Angeles. She began her college studies at Compton Community College.
Later she earned bachelor's and master’s degrees from Cal State
Northridge, and then a doctoral degree in higher education
administration from UCLA.
She currently is president of the Board of Library Commissioners of the
Los Angeles Public Library.
"It's terrific to have Dr. Wieder back with us," said Mona Field,
president of the Board of Trustees. "She will provide strong leadership
while we conduct a nationwide search for a permanent chancellor."
Dr. Wieder will not be a candidate for the permanent Chancellor
position. She will receive $19,584 a month while serving as Interim
Chancellor as well as a monthly transportation allowance of $1,530. A
search committee will be formed with the intent of selecting a new
Chancellor by early 2010.
Dr. Adriana Barrera, who has carried the extra duties of Acting
Chancellor since the departure of former Chancellor Marshall E. (Mark)
Drummond in late June, will continue in her role as Deputy Chancellor.
