FOR
IMMEDIATE RELEASE

MEDIA ARTS/PHOTOGRAPHY/JOURNALISM DEPARTMENT

Hollywood, CA – Daniel Marlos,
Chair of the Media Arts/Photography/Journalism Department at Los Angeles City
College (LACC), has announced four advanced second year LACC Photography
students,
Fridgeir Helgason, Vania Castellaw, Cheryl Aguba and Yamin
Li, have been chosen to participate in an exclusive free photographic student
exhibition, “emerging (I) 3,” to be
presented by Freestyle Photographic Supplies and The Creative Center for
Photography, 5124 Sunset Boulevard, Hollywood, CA 90027, from April 24 –
June 24, 2008.
Marlos said, “Fridgeir
Helgason’s image of a vacant parking lot in downtown Los Angeles was chosen
as the exhibition invitation image, and is part of a series entitled ‘Kiosks of Loneliness.’ Vania
Casellaw’s image was her final project in her large format photography
class, Photography 1, and it is a studio still life with a humorous twist. Cheryl
Aguba is exhibiting an image from her Fundamentals of Portraiture class
entitled ‘Karla in a Coffee Shop.’ Yamin
Li, who is heavily influenced by Asian cinema, will exhibit a staged,
highly charged emotional introspective image of a young woman in a laundry.”
The
diverse images in this show represent the keen eye and emerging vision of a
talented new generation of photographers.
“emerging (I) 3” opens with an
Artist Reception on Thursday, April 24, 2008 from 6:00 – 8:00 p.m. The exhibition runs through June 25, 2008.
The images have been selected by
members of the Freestyle Educational
Steering Committee, a group of dedicated photographic educators committed
to teaching darkroom skills to the photographers of tomorrow. They offer advice and council to Freestyle
Photographic Supplies in matters of curriculum and creative techniques. The Steering Committee also serves as a forum
for the educators’ thoughts and concerns about photography in the modern
classroom.
The
Creative Center for Photography is the home of the Advisory Board of
Photographic Professionals and the Educational Steering Committee, and houses
one of the finest collections of fine-art photography. The Center is located in Freestyle’s landmark
Hollywood headquarters and retail store located at 5124 Sunset Boulevard,
