The Los Angeles City College Academic Senate is the governing body of the Los Angeles City College Faculty Association. The Academic Senate bears responsibility for establishing policy and maintaining standards in relations to all instructional and professional matters at Los Angeles City College, including the following:
  • Degree and graduation requirements
  • Educational program development
  • Curriculum design and approval
  • Educational strategic planning
  • Program Review
  • Instructional resource allocation
  • Faculty ethics and academic freedom
  • Faculty development
  • Academic rank
To fulfill its mission, the Senate maintains twelve standing committees and meets bi-monthly in General Session to consider campus-wide issues and conduct Senate business. The Senate also sends representatives to all major campus committees and plays a central role in the College's self-goverance, program review, accreditation, and budget allocation processes. Senate membership includes elected representatives from the College's 27 academic departments, three adjunct faculty representatives elected at large, and one representative from the ASBG.
