Senate Standing Committees


Executive Committee
Composed of the elected officers of the Academic Senate, the Executive Committee meets the 2nd and 4th Wednesday of every month to plan Senate activities, draft solutions, and address campus issues in response to Senate directives. Suggestions for resolutions or "New Business" for Senate General Sessions should be forwarded to the Executive Committee for consideration as agenda items.

The Curriculum Committee
Composed of one representative from each academic department, the Curriculum Committee meets on the third Tuesday of each month during the regular Fall and Spring Semesters from 1:00 p.m. until 4:00 p.m. in the Faculty & Staff Center. The Curriculum Committee is responsible for making recommendations to the Senate in General Session on all curricular matters, including the creation of new educational programs and courses, the up-dating of existing courses, and the establishment of graduation and certificate requirements. Before courses are submitted to the Curriculum Committee, they must be cleared with the Technical Review Sub-Committee, which meets on Tuesdays and Wednesdays from 1:00 p.m. until 4:00 p.m. in the Teaching and Learning Center.

The Committee of Department Chairs
The Committee of Department chairs meets to consider and make recommendations to the Senate on all matters relating to the functioning of academic departments. The membership of the Committee of Department Chairs (CDC) includes the elected chairs of all academic departments. The committee meets on the first Tuesday of the month during the Fall and Spring Semesters, from 1:15 p.m. until 3:30 p.m. in the Faculty and Staff Center. In addition, the Chairs Caucus meets on the fourth Tuesday of each month from 12:30 p.m. until 2:00 p.m. in the Faculty and Staff Center to discuss issues relevant to department function.

The Educational Planning Committee
The Educational Planning Committee (EPC) oversees strategic academic planning for all instructional departments at LACC. The EPC makes recommendations to the Senate on all aspects of the College's educational program, including the following:

  • Educational Master Planning
  • Program Review
  • Program Viability Review (program creation, discontinuance, etc.)
  • Instructional Budget Allocation
  • Additional
The EPC meets on the first and third Wednesday of every month during Fall and Spring Semesters, and during intersessions as needed, from 12:30 p.m. to 2:00 p.m. in the President's Conference Room. EPC membership includes nine Academic Senate faculty, one AFT Faculty Guild representative, one staff guild representative, one representative of the ASBG, and three administrators. Budget and Finance Committee
The Budget and Finance Committee meets as needed during Fall and Spring Semester of the regular academic year to collect membership fees for and review allocation requests in relation to the budget of the LACC Faculty Association. The committee is composed of up to six faculty members appointed by the Academic Senate, with the Senate Treasurer serving as chair.

The Fellowship Committee
The Fellowship Committee meets as needed during Fall and Spring Semester of the regular academic year to plan and oversee activities that promote the development of a professional collegial atmosphere among LACC faculty. These activities include the Senate's reception for new faculty, the annual retirement luncheon, and the graduation reception. The committee is composed of three to six faculty members appointed by the Academic Senate. For more information about applying for these funds, contact the committee chair.

Academic Rank Committee
The Academic Rank Committee meets as needed to consider applications and recommend advancement in rank for faculty in accordance with District policy, which is available by clicking on this link:  (Districtrankpolicy).  It consists of three to four Senate members.

Constitution & Bylaws
The Constitution & Bylaws Committee meets as needed during Fall  and Spring Semesters to ensure that the documents governing the Senate and its processes are followed. Membership in this committee includes up to six faculty, with the Senate Parliamentarian serving as committee chair.

Elections Committee
The Elections Committee meets as needed during Fall and Spring Semester of the regular academic year to oversee all aspects of the elections process related to positions on the Senate's Executive Committee, District Academic Senate  representatives, and hourly faculty representatives to the General Session. The committee is composed of up to four faculty members appointed by the Academic Senate, excluding members of the Executive Committee.

The Professional Ethics Committee
The Professional Ethics Committee meets as needed during Fall and Spring Semester of the regular academic year to make policy recommendations to the General Session in relation to all matters of professional conduct of all LACC faculty, to consider cases of faculty misconduct and violations of academic freedom, and to address any issues related to faculty and student relationships as they arise. The committee is composed of up to six faculty members appointed by the Academic Senate.
