English/ESL Department Writing Contest

The LACC English/ESL Department and the Associated Student Organization

are pleased to announce the

The Eleventh Annual Writing Contest

 

Deadline for Submissions: Friday, April 17, 2009 at 12:00pm, noon.

 

Winners should make arrangements for the Awards Ceremony Gala at Barnsdall Cultural Center, May 14, 2009, from 6:30-8:30PM.

Entrants may submit in the following categories: Poetry, Short Story, and ESL Writing (Short Story, Poetry).

 

Cash prizes are for best Short Story, best Poem, best ESL Short Story and/or Poem.

 

Winners may have their works published in the Citadel.

 

Rules for Short Story and Poetry:

  • Stories should be no longer than 6000 words, no shorter than 500.

  • There are no restrictions on the style or genre of the fictional work.

  • Five copies of each submission required.

  • All submissions must be typed/word processed.

  • Nowhere on the manuscript should the author’s name appear.

  • The category of the submission should be clearly indicated on the manuscript; i.e., “Poetry” or “Short Story” or “ESL Writing.”

  • Include a separate cover page with titles (or first lines if there is no title) of works submitted, writer’s name, address, telephone, Student ID, and email address if available.

  • Submissions will not be sent in return, but can be picked up after the announcement of contest winners (End of May, 2009).

  • Limit of five submissions per category per writer.

ESL applicants: There is an ENTRY FORM available in JH300 or by clicking here for a PDF file (viewable on almost all computers).
