TYPING FOR YOUNG PEOPLE
Learn how to type the fun, fast and easy way. Typing will help your spelling and writing skills. Let your fingers do the talking! No experience necessary. Students are encouraged to repeat if additional practice or speedier progress is desired, and will include how to type reports, letters, postcards and envelopes. Age group 9+. PUBLIC SPEAKING FOR YOUNG PEOPLE
Public speaking is a skill and an art form that needs to be nurtured, so why not start now to strengthen your child’s public speaking skills. Do you want your child to articulate ideas with confidence, speak clearly, organize ideas more effectively and be able to communicate well in a variety of group settings? If so, this public speaking workshop is a perfect match for your child! Your child will learn how to create memorable speeches, minimize speaking anxiety, and have fun sharing ideas in front of an audience. Take advantage of this great opportunity for your child. Material fee of $8 payable in class. Enrollment limited to 12 students. Ages: 8+

WRITING
This workshop is designed to help your child in his or her writing skills, comprehension and vocabulary. There will be homework given, which each child is expected to complete on a weekly basis. The class will be based on the Language Arts Standards which are used in the L. A. Unified School District.  Material fee of $8 payable in class.  Class limit: 10 students.

READING
This class is designed to reinforce your child in his or her reading vocabulary, composition and writing skills. Each child will read to the class and to the instructor. Homework is given on a weekly basis. Material fee of $8 payable in class.

MATH SUCCESS CLASS
Assist your child for the challenges of this school year by enrolling him/her in this intensive advancement program. Each section limited to 12 students. Students may enroll in any of the math sections of their choice, ALL grade levels welcome. Material fee of $5 payable in class. Instructor A. & E. Abelian. L.A. Unified School District. READING READINESS GRADES K-1
Children will engage in literary activities and games to promote motivation to learn language related concepts such as nouns, adjectives and verbs. Children will create their own books, poems and stories through drawings, paintings, crafts and songs. Oral and written language supported through age appropriate literature. Material fee of $5 payable in class. 

FUN WITH MATH CLASS – For Grades K-1
Children will engage in hands-on activities to develop their sense and geometric abilities. Activities include manipulatives, games, puzzles, literature and songs to promote children’s understanding of addition, subtraction, patterns and geometry. Appropriate mathematical terms are introduced and supported by familiar language. Material fee of $5 payable in class. 

FUN WITH MATH CLASS – For Grades 1-2

Activities include manipulatives, games, puzzles, literature and songs that will develop each child’s understanding of addition, subtraction, word problems, time and geometry. FUN WITH ABC’s – Part 1
Fun with ABC’s part 1 is for the very young and older children with no school experience. Age appropriate activities, crafts, arts, music and movement to promote early literacy and school motivation. Preschool children, 3 to 5 year olds must be accompanied by their parents. Material fee of $5 payable in class. Enrollment limited to 12 students. 

S.A.T PREPARATION
The SAT (Scholastic Aptitude Test) is inevitable for all high school students planning to apply to a 4 year college/university. With careful preparation, students will walk through SAT questions, practice analogies, grammar, critical thinking and higher mathematic applications. Students will also cover/study the new essay-writing portion of the GED test through practice preparation. In addition, participants will discover valuable test taking strategies/secrets about guessing. Included will be a practice examination and an assessment. Cost of SAT book $15 payable in class.

FRENCH FOR KIDS & TEENS
French is one of the most fun languages spoken around the world. Children will learn to do a wide range of activities from pronunciation of the alphabet, to useful conversations that will increase vocabulary and promote cultural interest in the target language. Material fee of $22 payable in class. Material fee is for cost of 2 phrase books, CD and handouts. $5 only, if you already purchased the audio set. Title of book: Now you’re talking! French in no time, ISBNO-76417668-4, by Baron’s 4th edition. Ages 7-16.  

GUITAR FOR YOUNG PEOPLE
The guitar is the easiest instrument to learn! Come discover the true and fun way of learning how to play the guitar. This class will teach you proper finger coordination, how to tune your guitar and how to understand basic music notes. Bring your own acoustic guitar. Material fee of $10 payable in class. Ages 10-16

SINGING FOR CHILDREN
Develop your child’s singing and music abilities through this fun and rewarding program. No prior voice or singing necessary. Each child will perform solo and with a group in class. Material fee of $2 payable in class.  Limited enrollment. 

PIANO FOR CHILDREN
Children will learn the correct fundamentals in playing the piano: Topics covered: Development in finger coordination, critical sense of listening; notations in pitch and rhythm; discipline in good practice habits with an appreciation of music through the piano as well as basic written theory. Solo-ensemble repertoire will also be introduced. Ages: 6 yrs. & up. Intermediate Piano Class requires: Basic knowledge of music note reading and completion of beginner piano class. Students in the Intermediate class will choose sheet music comparable to their level. (Recital Date*: students will each give a performance for family and friends). Class limited to 14 students. No class November 27.

COMIC BOOK ART
It’s fun reading comic books and here is your chance to create your very own! In this class you will learn step-by-step drawing, shading with pencil, facial expressions, and how to create original characters and comic strips. Learn about the tools used by professionals in the field. If you are creative, enjoy reading comics and like to draw, this class is for your! Bring a number 2 pencil to class. Ages 8-14. Material fee of $3 payable in class. No class November 11.

DRAWING FOR YOUNG PEOPLE
Learn how to draw like a pro, get drawing tips and techniques on the characters or objects you like to draw. See your images come to life in this class. Instructor Wayne Thomas will get you started in using led/color pencil charcoal in shading, light/dark contrast, 3 dimension and brightness. Students are encouraged to bring their ideas & imagination. Please bring led & color pencils, eraser and sketchpad at 1st meeting of class. Ages 10-17. Instructor works for Disneyland as artist and has showcased his works at art galleries throughout the U.S.A. This instructor’s classes fill up fast - so register early!!!  No class November 27.

PAINTING AND WATERCOLORS
FOR YOUNG PEOPLE
Do you like to watercolor and like to paint? Instructor Wayne Thomas will get you started in basic watercolor and paint brush stroke techniques. Develop your natural hidden and artistic talents of visualizing everyday objects and then watercolor/paint these images using your creativity, senses and imagination. Students will be given total encouragement and support in developing their artistic skills at their own pace. Please bring basic watercolor set, brushes, paper and pencil at 1st class meeting. Ages 10-17. Instructor works for Disneyland as artist and has showcased his works at art galleries throughout the U.S.A. TENNIS FOR CHILDREN & TEENS
Develop a winning attitude with this lifetime sport. Basics are made enjoyable and simple, as they should be. Students will learn power positions for putting topspin and slice on the ball plus other basics as needed for good movement. Daphne Chinn is author of "Tough Tennis: How to Play Like a Pro." Please bring your own racket. Material fee of $5 payable in class. Class held off-campus. Age group: 8-18 yrs.

HIP HOP DANCING FOR YOUNG PEOPLE
Learn one of the most popular and requested dance styles in recent years. The instructor will teach you the steps and dance moves for this fun and exciting class. Ages 8-15.

BALLET FOR CHILDREN – BEG.
An introduction to pre-ballet techniques for children. The program will focus on the basic positions, steps, techniques and discipline of ballet. This workshop provides instruction in the correct use of the physical mechanics of motion while encouraging the spirit of dance in children. Class suitable for boys and girls! Class limited to 10 students for ages 3-4 years old.  No class November 27.

ICE SKATING FOR TOTS – AGES 3-5
This class will teach toddlers ages 3-5 years old the basic ice skating skills needed to get them started and begin ice skating. No prior ice experience needed. All equipment provided by instructor. Early registration is encouraged as the class is limited to only 10 students. Students enrolled in this class may skate the public session on the day of their class for free. Saturday public session is from 2:00-4:00 p.m. Class held off campus.

ICE SKATING FOR KIDS – AGES 6-12
Join the fun, make new friends and impress your family with fun-on-ice skills. Basic training on ice skating for ages 6-12. No prior ice experience needed. All equipment provided by instructor. Early registration is encouraged as the class is limited to 10 students. Students enrolled in this class may skate the public session on the day of their class for free! Saturday public session is from 2:00-4:00 p.m. Class held off campus.

GYMNASTICS FOR KIDS
This course is designed to teach basic gymnastic skills to children with little or no experience. Emphasis is put on floor exercises and tumbling skills. Gymnastics skills increase overall flexibility, motor coordination, as well as muscular strength and endurance. Besides learning gymnastics skills, the students acquire awareness about body movement and physical fitness. Each class begins with a comprehensive warm-up routine with an emphasis on flexibility. Wear athletic clothing. 

KUNG FU FOR KIDS
What do Bruce Lee, Jackie Chan and Let Li have in common? They all studied/practiced Kung Fu. Kung Fu is known as the father of Martial Arts. Come and learn Martial Arts/Kung Fu fluid movements as your body adapts to this ancient philosophy/training. Included will be gymnastics, self-defense and finding out your limits and potential. No experience necessary. Ages 6-12. Uniform not required.

JUDO FOR CHILDREN
Judo is an official Olympic sport that offers self-defense skills for children including throwing and groundwork (grappling). Each class begins with warm-up exercises that increase cardiovascular and respiratory endurance, muscular strength and endurance, flexibility and agility. This is an introductory course that combines beginners with intermediate and advanced students. Students have the option of belt rank promotion. The Southern California Black Belt Association officially recognizes all belt ranks. Boys and girls can participate. Age group: 6-13. Wear a long sleeve sweatshirt or judo uniform. 

KARATE FOR KIDS
This coed workshop will cover Karate and Tae Kwon Do as a sport. Use it as a means of physical fitness and a discipline for everyday life. The workshop will cover calisthenics and basic karate techniques. Special emphasis will be placed on the fundamentals. Age group: 6-15 years. Gi or loose clothing required. Held at L.A.C.C. 

KING TIGER TAE KWON DO
King Tiger Tae Kwon Do is a non-contact martial art which provides exercise and strength training thru drills and simulated self-defense situations. This ancient art evolved in Korea over 2000 years ago and can be defined as “strength thru kicking and punching movements.” Open to boys and girls 4 and older. Class is held at 3020 Wilshire Blvd.
