About our program
Los Angeles City College Community Services Extension provides a full range of not–for–credit classes and programs designed to meet the educational, social, recreational, cultural, and civic needs of people in the college community. Fee and grant funds are received for programs to make them self-supporting.
Community Services Extension offerings fall into the following categories: cultural and special programs provide the community with opportunities for cultural awareness, enrichment, and appreciation; campus concerts; educational and documentary films; lecture series and travelogues; theater productions; art exhibits; opera workshop productions; and dance performances. Also included is a variety of conferences, professional workshops, and seminars.
Educational Programs offer the community an opportunity to explore a variety of personal interest areas of learning, to update individual knowledge on recurring social problems, and to persue individual research and study. Physical Recreation Programs offer opportunities for the community to participate in such recreational activities as not–for–credit, short-term programs in dance, martial arts, physical fitness, gymnastics, and sports as well as a variety of self-directed recreational programs.
