MISSION STATEMENT & STUDENT LEARNING OUTCOMES

MISSION STATEMENT:
The mission of the Child Development program is to provide learners with multiple pathways that prepares them to become dynamic, responsive, authentic, and informed early childhood education professionals.
The mission of the Dietetics program is to prepare graduates with the foundation knowledge, skills and/or competencies for current dietetics practice and lifelong learning.
 
DEGREE PROGRAMS
Degree:  AA Child Development – Plan A & B 
Degree Description:                            
Completion of the Associate Degree, Plan A prepares students for transfer to a university and for employment in an early care and education program.  Students develop skills, knowledge,and attitudes that prepares them to work as teachers of young children or as administrators of ECE programs.
Degree Learning Outcomes                     
The student will:      
1. Integrate understanding of the needs, the characteristics and multiple influences on all areas of development of children birth to age eight that support optimal development.
2. Promote partnerships between programs, teachers, families and communities, applying ethical standards and culturally sensitive professional behavior.
3. Design, implement and evaluate developmentally appropriate environments, curriculum and teacher/child interactions, applying the skills of observation and assessment.
 
Degree:  AS Dietetic Technician - Plan B
Degree Learning Outcomes
The student will:
1. Function as an important part of a health care team to treat and prevent disease and administer medical nutrition therapy.
2. Purchase and prepare food in a commercial kitchen.
3. Construct budgets within food service operations.
4. Deliver oral presentations, educating clients about the connection between food, fitness, and health.
5. Create professional development portfolios.
