acquaints students with the major principles of sociology as they are applied to contemporary
social problems.

AMERICAN SOCIAL PROBLEMS (UC:CSU)

ADVISORY: Sociology 1. This course involves the identification and analysis of contemporary
social problems. It is concerned with problems in human relationships and social institutions.
Among the contemporary social problems studied in the course are racism, sexism, crime,
poverty, and family disorganization.

in Humanities. Stresses techniques of discovering published authors’ meanings and expressing
