LACC Textbook Advance Program (LACC-TAP)

The purpose of the LACC Textbook Advance Program (LACC-TAP) is to provide short-term, interest free loans to students who are attending Los Angeles City College so that they may obtain the required course materials needed for their registered classes.

Who is Eligible to Apply for the Textbook Advance Program?

  • Open to all students enrolled in 3 units or more at LACC and in good academic standing.
  • Students who have recently filed their FAFSA form are eligible. 
Students are approved for the LACC-TAP based on a combination of factors that include but are not limited to: 
  • Need and eligibility.
  • Date the completed LACC-TAP application is submitted.
    • The deadline for Fall 2020 applications is September 13, 2020

The LACC-TAP requires a repayment of the advanced funds.

The College encourages you to actively seek opportunities to pay for your course materials from sources for which you qualify. These sources include but are not limited to the following: 

State and Federal Sources (Cal-Grants and Pell Grants)

To be eligible for funding from government sources you must complete a FAFSA application and apply to these programs:

Privately Funded Sources

This can include awards from organizations such as your church or a service organization. 

The LACC Foundation Textbook Loan Program

Students may be eligible for textbooks on a loaned basis from the LACC Foundation. The LACC Foundation Textbook program has a limit of up to $350.

LACC CubStore Textbook Scholarship

Students who are not eligible for government funding sources or for other program funds offered by LACC may be eligible for a textbook scholarship.

Program Details & Process for Applying

  • The full amount of the advance must be paid by the conclusion of the semester.
    • The Fall 2020 repayment deadline is December 13, 2020.
  • Advance funding for the LACC-TAP program is a maximum of $500 per semester. 
  • Approved advances must be used within 30 days of approved loan date. After 30 days the balance not used will not be available.
  • Only required textbooks and materials for classes offered by LACC are supported by the LACC-TAP. Books may be new, used, or a rental. (All existing rentals agreements still apply.) 
  • Purchases made before applying are not eligible for the LACC-TAP.

Timeline for Applying, Receiving, and Paying Back Loan:

  • Students must submit a textbook advance application by the Add/Drop Deadline of each semester.
    • The deadline for Fall 2020 applications is September 13, 2020.
  • Students will be notified via e-mail when the advance has been approved. Notification will occur within 5 business days of receipt of a completed application.
  • Following approval an account equal to the amount of the advance will be available at the LACC CubStore.
  • Payments for the LACC-TAP can be made to the student’s Peoplesoft account throughout the semester via Credit Card.  Arrangements for other payment options must be made with the Business Office.
    • Payments can be in the form of cash, checks, credit card, or the Financial Aid Higher One Card.​
  • Any outstanding balance at the conclusion of the semester will be billed to your student account. Collection of the outstanding amount will be handled by the Business office.  
  • Student accounts are subject to a financial hold if not repaid in full.
