Mammography Program

A certified technician performs a Mammograph

The Los Angeles City College’s Radiologic Technology Program is launching a new Mammography Program through LACC Extension. The Mammography Program is designed to provide current Radiologic Technology students and licensed Radiologic Technologists* with the education and training required to be eligible for the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT) certification exam.

This opportunity is being offered at NO COST through grant funding by Union Bank.

Program Details

The Mammography Program consists of 48 hours of structured didactic lectures (including eight hours of digital mammography), hands-on lab, and clinical training**.

Program Duration: October 30, 2021 – December 11, 2021
Lecture Dates: October 30, November 6, 13, 20 & December 4, 11 (Six Saturdays)
Lecture Time: 8:00 am – 4:00 pm (scheduled breaks included)

*Post-graduates from institutions accredited by ARRT, JRCERT, the State of California, or the Department of Public Health are eligible to apply.

**Participants who are Certified Radiographic Technologists or current students enrolled in other accredited institutions (not LACC) are strongly encouraged to fulfill clinical training requirements at their respective established clinical sites if possible.

The Mammography Program satisfies the following requirements: 

FDA’s Mammography Quality Standards Act (MQSA) – 40 hours of initial training in mammography, 25 mammography examinations under the supervision of an MQSA-qualified individual. 

American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT) – 16 hours of structured education activities in addition to earning the 40 hours of didactic education required by MQSA. 75 mammography exams (screening/diagnostic) additional to the 25 mammograms required by MQSA.

California Department of Public Health - Radiologic Health Branch (CDPH RHB) Mammography licensure and permit for state requirement.

American College of Radiology (ACR) – Our affiliated clinical facilities are accredited through this governing body.
