Financial Aid Applications Workshop

The Financial Aid Office is hosting a series of workshop where attendees will be able to complete financial aid applications (FAFSA and AC Dream Act Application) with the guidance of knowledgeable financial aid staff. The workshops are scheduled Wednesdays and Fridays this Fall 2018 in the Welcome Center (Student Services Building - 1st floor):

Wednesday mornings     9:30 - 11:30
Wednesday afternoons    1:00 - 3:00
Wednesday evenings      5:00 - 6:30
Friday mornings            9:30 - 11:30

The following information will be needed to complete the FAFSA or CA Dream Act Application online:

For all students:

  • Social Security Card* and State Identification Card (driver's license or ID card)
  • Alien registration Card* (for eligible non-citizens)
  • 2016 Federal Tax Return and W2 forms for 2018-19 application
  • 2017 Federal Tax Return and W2 forms (include parents if dependent) for 2019-20 application

For dependent students:

  • Parents social security number, date of birth, date of marital status
  • Parents' 2016 Federal Tax Return and W2 forms for 2018-19 application
  • Parents' 2017 Federal Tax Return and W2 forms for 2019-20 application

* CA Dream Act Application does not require an SSN

Appeals Workshops

Topics covered include the Satisfactory Academic Progress standards and the process of appealing for reinstatement. The presenter will discuss the appeal process and what a student should include in their appeal to improve their chances of getting their financial aid reinstated. Students who have been academically disqualified from receiving financial aid are encouraged to attend this workshop.

Please arrive 15 minutes prior to the start of the workshop. You must bring a valid, state issued ID and an ink pen.

You do not need to attend this workshop if you previously attended one. Students who are disqualified for having an AA/Bachelors/Masters or for having at least 90 attempted units (and without GPA or non-grade issues) do not need to attend a workshop, but instead will need to submit an Educational Plan with their appeal.

Orientation

A variety of topics are discussed, including:

  • What is required of financial aid recipients?
  • When to expect the disbursements.
  • What’s the myLACCDcard debit card?
  • How to maintain your financial aid.
  • What is satisfactory academic progress?
  • How adding and dropping a class may affect aid?
  • Income reductions.

All financial aid recipients are encouraged to attend this workshop. We also collaborate with faculty to provide this information within a classroom environment throughout the academic year.

Learn all about the new myLACCDcard, which is your key to faster financial aid disbursements.

Cash for College Day

Financial Aid experts are available on campus to assist anyone who needs assistance in completing the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA). In addition, computers will be available on-site for applicants to file their form online. Cash for College events are typically held during the months of January - February each year. Check here for updated times and locations for any upcoming Cash for College events.

Learn about scholarship opportunities, how to search for them on-line, and how to effectively complete the necessary applications.
