News and Events for the week of September 9

Happy Monday Morning:

We ended last week just below 100% of Fall 2018 at 98%. We were open on Saturday, so hopefully our numbers will be back to 100% by today. Great start to our 90th year! Onward to enrollment in our late start classes.

Congressman Adam Schiff Press Conference

Last Thursday, September 5, LACC hosted a roundtable with Congressman Adam Schiff. He was joined by LACCD Chancellor Dr. Francisco Rodriguez, LACCD Board of Trustees President Andra Hoffman, Glendale Community College Superintendent/President Dr. David Viar, Pasadena City College Superintendent/President Dr. Erika Endrijonas, Board of Trustee members from Pasadena and Glendale City Colleges, several LACC students, and me. The roundtable addressed issues of food insecurity. Congressman Schiff is proposing federal legislation to help our students with daily meals while they are in school - it is similar to the free lunch program in high schools across the country. Media that attended included Telemundo, KNX-FM, KABC-TV and News Agency America. Once we receive clips you will be able to view them on our Press Room section of the website.

LACC Journalism Has Done It Again

The Collegian’s annual magazine was nominated for a prestigious national award -the Pinnacle Award- from the College Media Advisors. This is a rare and special acknowledgment of the great work Professor Guess does with her students, and the talents of these wonderful journalism students. We are so proud of this great accomplishment!

LACC Community Corner

I met with my accreditation site visit team on Wednesday and attended training all day. It is a great team.

Congressman Adam Schiff visited LACC and held a roundtable discussion on food insecurity and new legislation he has proposed to help community college students in the country get a free meal on campus. He also toured our food pantry.

This week I have a meeting with the Los Angeles Promise Zone Executive Committee.

A lot is happening at our great college.

Have a wonderful week!
