News and Events for the week of June 10

Good Monday Morning:

Thanks to everyone who participated and helped out at our 2019 Graduation last Tuesday. We had a record number turnout at the Greek of graduates and graduation participants. Thank you to all of you who helped to make it another memorable day for LACC.

Surprise Scholarship Presentation at Los Angeles School of Global Studies

This past Saturday, 6/8, a surprise check was presented to Los Angeles School of Global Studies student Oswald Vazquez by LACC Foundation Executive Director Robert Schwartz and LACCD Trustee Andra Hoffman. Vazquez attended college classes at LACC while in high school and received a full scholarship to Harvard. LACC and LACCD combined to present a scholarship to Oswald at his high school graduation ceremony on Saturday. We hope the funds will provide an opportunity for Oswald to travel back home for the holidays.

Spend Summer in the City

Summer Session begins today, 6/10. If any students need help, please send them to the newly renovated Welcome Center located on the first floor of the Student Services building. Check out our website for a complete list of open classes.

Faculty and Staff - Classified Professional Development Day

Our next Classified Professional Development Day will be this Friday, June 14th from 8am to 4pm in the Student Union 3rd Floor Multipurpose Room. All classified staff working on Friday will be reassigned for the day to this gathering. It will begin with a hot breakfast and will include lunch as well. Deanna and Ric will return to facilitate this day for us. See you all there.

We will have another Classified Professional Development Day on Friday, July 19th from 8am to 4pm.

Faculty and Staff - LACC Picnic – Mark Your Calendars

We are bringing back the LACC picnic. It is set for Thursday, August 8 from 12noon to 4pm at Crystal Springs in Griffith Park. The picnic is free and you are welcome to bring your family. We will have both Pink’s Hot Dogs and In-and-Out there to satisfy whatever your taste. We will have games, prizes, and a whole lot of fun.

As we gear back up for the summer session, let’s keep working together to help our students at this great Los Angeles City College… the City’s College.

Have a great week,
