News and Events for the week of July 1

This Week @ City

Good Monday Morning:

This week is a short one with the upcoming July 4 holiday. I encourage everyone to relax and enjoy the short break as we still have lots of work to do preparing for Fall. The Welcome Center will be open on Friday, July 5 from 8:00 until noon.

Enrollment and Budget

Our summer session enrollment is just at about 100% of last summer. The larger part of the summer session begins in 2 weeks on July 15. That session still has open classes. We are well over 100% of last year in that session and it starts our 2019-20 year off to a great start. We expect to end the 2018-19 year around 1% below 2017-18. That is okay because the drop in enrollment is not as substantial as it has been in the past. We will balance our budget for 2018-19 as well.

We start the 2019-20 year with enrollment projections above 100% for the second summer session. And fall 2019 still is above 100% of last year. It has been at about 105%. We are in full swing with advertising around town on billboards, bus shelters, train stations, new banners across Vermont, newspaper advertising, and a new campaign to attract new students. At the same time, we continue to send targeted ads to new and existing students to enroll for classes.

Summer Classes

We are in our fourth week of Summer Session. We still have space in our second summer session. Check out our website for a complete list of open classes for the second summer session. If any students need help, please send them to the newly renovated Welcome Center located on the first floor of the Student Services building.

Fall Classes

Enrollment is in full swing for fall 2019 classes. Our enrollment continues to grow. Please remember to encourage students attending summer sessions to make sure to enroll for Fall. If students have any questions, please have them go to the Welcome Center on the first floor of the Student Services building.

Banners Across Vermont and New Advertising

At the end of this week, we will have installed over 20 large banners on the front of the college building on Vermont – stretching from the Herb Alpert Music Center to the end of Franklin Hall. Each banner represents a separate program and is meant to continue to establish the brand of LACC. Please take a stroll and view the banners, take pictures and post them to our social media. You will also notice new billboards, bus shelter ads, and train station ads throughout the city with a new tagline and a new look targeted at increasing enrollment.

Pop-up Food Pantry (On Monday only this week)

Please be sure your students know that our Pop-up Food Pantry, located in front of the Student Union, continues to distribute between approximately 10:30am until 12:30pm.

Community Resource Fair 90th Anniversary Community Event

Please also mark your calendars for our Community Resource Fair on Saturday, October 12 from 10am to 2pm throughout the LACC campus. There will be free health screenings, activities for the entire family, information on employment opportunities, non-profit and community services and presentations about LACC programs and classes. We will also be providing lunch for the event.

For Faculty & Staff - LACC Picnic 90th Anniversary Staff Event

An invitation went out last week to all LACC staff inviting you and your family to our picnic on Thursday,  August 8 from 12noon to 4pm at Crystal Springs in Griffith Park. The picnic is free and we will have Pink’s Hot Dogs and hamburgers from a local small vendor. We will have games, prizes, and a whole lot of fun for both you and your children. You must RSVP to the invitation in order to participate. We hope to see you and yours for an afternoon of fun!

My second fiscal year at LACC ended in a positive position. LACC is such a great college with tremendous faculty, students, staff and administrators. It truly is… The City’s College.

Have a great week,
