News and Events for the week of January 28

Good Monday Morning:

A week from today we begin our Spring semester. Our numbers are hovering around 97% of last year. Please be sure to let students know we still have classes open.

Spring Classes

Beat the Rush Week is our official start of Spring semester to obtain Cub ID cards, get financial aid information, purchase parking permits and textbooks, and much more. The outreach team has been calling students for a final registration push.

The Student Services building will be extending their hours of operation from 8am to 7pm Monday through Thursday, 8am to 4pm on Friday, and 9am to 1pm on Saturday (2/2 and 2/9). The bookstore will also be open those two Saturdays as well.

We will have tables available outside of the Student Services building for counseling faculty, EOP&S, Trio, and academic departments who want to promote their classes. There will be an open class list that will be updated daily and posted on a big board outside as well. We hope to have Metro U-Pass representatives at a table that week, and Blue LA will be there giving out gift cards to students who sign up.

Please go to the Student Services building Welcome Center for any questions you need answered.

Special Panel of Experts Visiting LACC

The American Jewish Federation is hosting a contingent from the Israeli Trauma Coalition to help some of the groups that were devastated by the recent fires. They are an amazing group and I have invited them to have a panel discussion on trauma and trauma recovery with our faculty, students and staff. This is a great opportunity. It will be held today, Monday, January 28 from 12pm to 2pm.

Our Pop-Up Food Bank is adding a day – now we will provide free food to students every Monday and Thursday in spring. We added Thursday last week and we had over 1,000 students get food for the weekend.
