News and Events for the week of February 11

Good Monday Morning:

I wanted to thank everyone for all of their efforts to make last week’s Welcome Week a success. When we started the week, we did not know what issues we may have at the beginning of the term. Our enrollment was also down to 95% of last year. But we had very few problems, students got the help they needed, and faculty added students to classes. By the end of the week, we had resolved all of the issues that popped up and we ended the week at 98% of last year. I call that a very good week!

Please be sure to let students know we still have classes open. If students need assistance, please send them to the Welcome Center located on the first floor of the Student Services building.

I am on vacation for a few days this week. Dr. Lancaster will be the acting President. I will return on Thursday.

Also, we have added a page to the website listing all of the student resources I listed in last week’s update. You can find it at: http://lacitycollege.edu/Resources-Services/Homeless-Students/.

This Friday (2/15) and next Monday (2/18) the campus will be closed in honor of the President’s holidays. There are no classes on Saturday.

Pop-Up Food Bank

Students in line for the pop Up Food BankWe had a very successful week feeding our students. Between Monday and Thursday, we distributed over 3,000 bags/boxes of food. Adding another day was really a need for our students. We are providing free food every Monday and Thursday from about 11am until 1pm (or until the food runs out). Students can get fresh fruits and vegetables, as well as some other pre-packaged food items. Please spread the word.

ABA Approval for Paralegal Program

I am happy to announce that we received ABA approval for seven years for our paralegal program.
