News and Events for the week of December 10

Good Monday Morning:

I cannot believe it is finals week. We will have limited staff the week of 12/17. The college will be open, but we will only have the Welcome Center open to the public. The college will be closed to the public on Wednesday 12/26 and Thursday 12/27, but we will have staff from the Welcome Center working in Facilities.

This is my last communication to you for the year. I wish for you all a restful and happy semester break.

Banners Along Melrose and Virgil

While you are commuting or while you are driving in the vicinity of the campus, take a drive down Melrose between Virgil and the 101 freeway and you will see LACC street banners that commemorate our 90th anniversary – on both sides of the street. There are also some on Virgil between Santa Monica and Sunset. We are out there!

Highlights from Last Week

Last Tuesday we held our Town Hall about Facilities and IT to over 120 employees. Thank you all for attending. Afterwards, we hosted a celebration for Vice President Dan Walden, who will assume his new position as President/Superintendent of Victor Valley College on January 2nd.

Then on Wednesday we held our annual Principal’s Breakfast to a crowded room. We enjoyed great music from our jazz band and shared future plans, new initiatives we are working on, and a group discussion with both a student panel and a faculty panel. The evaluations from the principals indicated that they really enjoyed the event and they found it informative.

Extended Library Hours

The Library will be open more hours this week for students to prepare for finals. Monday through Thursday, the Library will be open until 11:00pm. Friday (12/14) and Saturday (12/15) the Library will be open its regular hours until 4pm.

Winter and Spring Classes

Our enrollment is good for Winter 2019, and our enrollment for Spring 2019 continues upward. Find the classes you need by checking the Open Classes list for Winter, and Open Classes list for Spring.

90th Anniversary Activities

So far about 20 people have volunteered to work on events and activities to commemorate LACC’s 90th anniversary. That group will meet right after the first of the year. Our first event will be a community event in spring to let everyone know in our area that we are celebrating 90 years of excellence in education.

Student Film Screenings: Cinema 2 & 33

On Tuesday (12/11) and Wednesday (12/12), the end of term screenings of projects for Cinema 2 and Cinema 33 will take place at CC 176 at 6:30 pm. The suggested donation is $3.

The workshops occur this week on Wednesday, 12/12 at 9:30am, 1:00pm and 5:00pm and Friday, 12/14 at 9:30am in the Welcome Center, 1st floor of the Student Services building.
