LACC’s Collegian Times Magazine Nominated for Prestigious Pinnacle Award

LACC's Collegian Times annual magazine was nominated for the prestigious national Pinnacle Award by the College Media Association. The Collegian Times was one of 41 student-produced collegiate magazines named as finalists.

The 41 magazines represent 22 states and Canada and were selected from a total of 126 magazine entries from both four-year and two-year colleges.

Out of the 41 Pacemaker finalists, only nine are from two-year schools. “The verbal and visual storytelling in the winning magazines is incredible and robust long-form stories combine with shorter quick-reads to pace the reader through the pages,” said Gary Lundgren, Associated Collegiate Press Associate Director and coordinator of the Pacemaker competition.

“We are extremely proud of our journalism students,” said Dr. Mary Gallagher, President, Los Angeles City College. “To be named a finalist in the same category as leading four-year college campuses says so much about our journalism program, faculty and students.”

“This is the most exciting achievement for the students and the program,” said LACC Professor and Journalism/Newspaper Advisor  Rhonda Guess. “They are finalists for two national awards: the Associated Collegiate Press Pacemaker Award and the College Media Association Pinnacle Award for the 2019 Collegian Times Magazine. Two different sets of judges saw excellence in the L.A. City College Collegian Times magazine.”

The Pacemaker finalists will be recognized and the Pacemaker winners announced at the ACP/CMA National College Media Convention, Oct. 31-Nov. 3, 2019 in Washington, D.C.
