LACC Hosts Artist Talk With Rafa Esparza

The Visual & Media Arts Department is thrilled to announce that Rafa Esparza will be giving an artist talk in the Old Chemistry Lecture Hall 3 on May 15th from 6-7:30pm.

Performance art, a man lies on the sidewalk with a bag over his head and heavy ropes tied around his body.

Rafa Esparza’s performance and installation art in traditional and non-traditional spaces addresses themes of identity, community, history and colonization. By inviting other artists into his spaces to collaborate and exhibit their work, Esparza questions the authority of traditional exhibition and art making structures and practices.

Installation, photos of men are hung on a wall built of rough bricks.Los Angeles born and raised (1981), Rafa Esparza studied at ELAC before graduating from UCLA. To name a few amongst his many national and international exhibitions and performances include an installation/performance at Made in LA, Hammer Museum 2016, the Whitney Biennial 2017, NYC, and presently at the Institute of Contemporary Art, LA.

The talk is free and open to the public.
